Bubbagump Trinoma celebrated their 1st year Anniversary by introducing new exciting new dishes plus a special guest in the form of Forrest Gump. We get to try new dishes on their menu like the Spicy Jambalaya Pasta, Dynamite Shrimp, Grilled Shrimp Salad with Garlic-Cilantro Dressing. and That Chocolate Thing for dessert. Forrest entertained us with funny stories. We also got to take a picture with him and had it printed right on the spot. He even gave me a chocolate straight from his chocolate box. While giving me the chocolate, he told me “My momma always tells me – Life is like a box of chocolates. You’ll never know what you’re gonna get”.
I was fortunate to attend a Dona Elena Cuisinera Club Cooking Demo at The Podium. I got to know some interesting facts about Mediterranean Diet which was discussed by Dr. Luchie Callanta. She explained why the people who live around the Mediterranean Sea (like Italians, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Greeks, Egyptians, etc.) consume foods that contain a lot of fats but they have lower death rates. It’s because they often use Olive oil in their food. Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats which reduces the risk of heart disease. Chef Golda Liamzon also cooked for us using Dona Elena Olive oil. Here are two of my favorite recipes that Chef Golda prepared which can serve as a viand and dessert.
STEWED CHICKEN IN COCONUT MILK
(serves 6 persons)
1 pc. whole chicken, cut into pieces
1/2 up Dona Elena Pure Olive Oil
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
2 tablespoon ginger, julienne (shred into long, thin strips)
1 pc red onion, sliced
2 pcs green chili (siling haba)
500 mL coconut milk
20g chili leaves (dahon ng sili)
salt and pepper to taste
1. Heat the Dona Elena Pure Olive Oil in a saute pan and saute the onions, garlic and ginger until aromatic.
2. Add the chicken pieces and sear (brown) on all all sides.
3. Add the coconut milk and green chili and let simmer until chicken is well done.
4. 5 minutes before chicken is cooked, add the chili leaves and season with salt and pepper.
5. Serve with white rice.
Nope, this isn’t a death match. Alarming as it sounds, but this doesn’t involve any La Salle Green Archers or Ateneo Blue Eagles. It’s about the 3rd Leg Asian Archery Grand Prix 2008 and Southeast Asian Archery Federation Championships (SEAAF). Archers from 9 Asian countries will compete for this event from October 25 to 31 at Ateneo Football Field. For spectators who want to watch this Archery competition, there is no admission fee though you might have to log-in in the guard’s logbook for security reasons. For more information please visit their website. So, let’s go to Ateneo to watch the Archers.
Trenza Salon, a unique beauty salon for the whole family, has just celebrated their 1st year anniversary last October 10. It was a day of great food, relaxing salon services, and fun activities. My fellow bloggers got to play as Rockstars and Divas complete with fedora hats, feather boas, and charm bracelets. Not only that, we had our nails done at the Digital Nail Art Station, sprayed our hair blue and purple at the Kiddie Hair Salon Station, and had a Lemon Grass Foot Spa. Other services available were Hair Spa Services, Glitter Tattoos and much, much more. Since it was a party, there’s always food involved and Simply Delicious worked their magic. They prepared Pasta with Lucban Longganisa, Chicken Lollipops with Honey and Mustard Sauce, and Iced Tea.
Bo’s Coffee Club is all about passion for coffee. That’s what Steve Benitez, President and CEO of Bo’s coffee club explained at the recent Share the Bo’s Passion Blogger’s Event held at Bo’s Coffee Club’s Bonifacio High Street Branch. Bo’s pride itself for using locally-grown beans and prepared world-class. The coffee beans are roasted right in front of your eyes. It’s an assurance that your coffee beverage is made out of the freshest coffee beans. That’s why there’s always a sign that says Just Roasted Coffee in every Bo’s Coffee Club’s glass doors.
Steve wanted to share this wonderful story about how Bo’s that’s why Share the Bo’s Passion was created. 8 lucky bloggers were invited to this intimate and personal event. We feasted on Blueberry Cheesecake. Oreo Cheesecake and Triple Chocolate Mouse, a Bo’s original creation. There were also other treats like Cheese Rolls, Butterscotch Squares, Chocolate Chunk Cookies but i preferred to stick to the cake and Cafe Mocha.
Next, we were asked to pair up, be baristas and make our own Bo’s beverage. Steve and other judges will pick the best coffee beverage which will be featured at Bo’s Bonifacio High Street Branch for one month.
Audrey and I paired up. We were laughing all the time because we really have no idea on how to make our own coffee concoction and the other groups were so serious. We just relied on the common things that we like. Audrey likes Hazelnut flavored coffee. Well, I love nuts so no argument with that. We both love caramel syrup, choco chips, choco syrup so we chose those ingredients. We decided to make a blended drink that is cream-based (Caffegato is how they call it), then put an ounce of espresso for the coffee flavor, choco syrup, choco chips, a lot of Hazelnut syrup, topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup. Since it’s pretty heavy on the sweetness, we christened the drink Sinful Kofficino. And guess what, we won! So watch out for it at Bo’s Bonifacio High Street Branch.
If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind adventure, come by California Pizza Kitchen. Trust me, it’s some adventure you’ll never forget. I attended a CPK event last September held in California Pizza Kitchen at Glorietta 3. I chose “Santa Fe Chicken Pizza as my pizza adventure. I get to make the pizza myself with the aid of one of the chef of CPK so it was a hands-on experience. I also got one of the biggest surprise when the chef told me to garnish the pizza with sour cream and guacamole. Where can you find a pizza like that, huh? Only at California Pizza Kitchen.
Some pizzas that I saw at the event looked really fantastic. There’s one that looks like a garden salad named “Pear & Gorgonzola” and another one tasted like pancit which was named “Thai Chicken”. You wonder why those pizzas look and taste different from your ordinary pizzas, right? Well, California Pizza Kitchen originated from California of course. Now, California is considered as a home of different migrant cultures. CPK drew inspiration from these diverse cultures and made up really interesting pizzas for all people to enjoy. So why not try a pizza adventure yourself. Go to California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant near you.
